Under two miles of coast
Solana Beach is compact, about 1.7 miles of coastline wedged between Del Mar to the south and Cardiff-by-the-Sea to the north. The ways in are Lomas Santa Fe Drive, the main I-5 exit down to the coast, and Via de la Valle from the south.
Cedros and Eden Gardens
The Cedros corridor concentrates most of the activity. The Cedros Design District runs a couple of blocks between Lomas Santa Fe Drive and Plaza Street, storefronts tight to the sidewalk, with the Coaster transit center at its north end. Eden Gardens, east of the tracks, is straightforwardly residential.
Bluff-top condos
Toward the water, the bluff-top condos around Fletcher Cove, Tide Beach Park and Seascape Surf frequently sit behind gated lots. A unit number and gate code in the order notes is the difference between a handoff at the door and a phone call from the street.
Fletcher Cove Park and the beaches below the bluff are public land, so the handoff happens at the condo, not on the sand.
The Fairgrounds next door
The Del Mar Fairgrounds sits immediately south, across Via de la Valle. During the county fair and the race meets that road and the Highway 101 approach slow right down, which is worth knowing before you order on an event day.
