How to Make Cannabutter

As the holidays approach, you may be thinking about how you can make some great edibles in the comfort of your home. So, this brings us to making cannabutter. Basically, cannabutter is a butter that contains a good amount of cannabis. It is one of the easiest and quickest methods of making cannabis-infused edibles.

When making cannabutter, you need to heat the flower of cannabis slowly at a low temperature for the psychoactive potential of the edibles to be activated. Even though this can be quite tricky, this article can assist you to master how you can make cannabutter.

A step-by-step guide for making cannabutter

Apart from being delicious, butter is capable of carrying THC and other cannabinoids easily. Olive oil, coconut oil, and other fatty oils are also great for making cannabis-infused edibles.

These are the ingredients you need for cannabutter:

  • 1 cup of cannabis (around 7 to 10g)
  • 1 cup of butter

Once you have the ingredients, you should do the following:

  • Decarboxylate the cannabis

Firstly, you need put the cannabis buds inside a non-stick tray while preheating the oven to 245°F. Use a parchment paper to cover the tray so that the cannabis will not stick to it.

Place the tray in the oven and set a timer for around 30 to 40 minutes. Shake the tray lightly after every 10 minutes to ensure that the cannabis buds are heated equally.

  • Grind the decarboxylated cannabis

The next step is to grind the decarboxylated cannabis. You will need a hand grinder for this.

  • Let the butter melt

Mix 1 cup of butter with 1 cup of water in a saucepan. Let the combination simmer on low so that the butter will melt. To ensure that the butter doesn’t scorch, you should add water to the mixture from time to time.

  • Mix cannabis with the melted butter

Now, add cannabis to the saucepan. You need to allow the mixture to simmer at low heat (around 161°F to 190° F) for about 2 to 3 hours. Stir the mixture occasionally, but make sure it doesn’t boil fully.

  • Strain it

Place a funnel on top of a jar and put cheesecloth on it. Allow the butter to cool off before pouring it through the cheesecloth funnel. Let the mixture strain freely into the jar for some minutes.

  • Refrigerate the jar of cannabutter

Afterward, you have to refrigerate the jar of cannabutter. Sometimes, excess water may be found at the bottom of the jar. Use a knife to remove the butter to get rid of the water. Notably, the cannabutter must have been refrigerated for at least one hour before getting rid of the water.

  • Dose cautiously

Now, your cannabutter is ready for consumption. It should be combined with desserts, dishes, or snacks. It is important to be careful when taking this butter. At first, you can combine ¼ or ½ teaspoon of cannabutter with a snack to feel the effect of the edible. Afterward, you can increase or decrease the cannabutter based on how potent it is.
